Now that the new school is up and running, we can finally turn our attention to the GCNS library. A team of parents are working with Ms. McDonagh on the new school library and thanks to the generosity of parents, local libraries, and the community at large (via zero waste Greystones) the school has amassed over 2,000 books to get our library off the ground. The children in the school have already chosen a woodland theme and a design plan is currently being finalised. There is still a lot of work ahead but with the continued support of the parent body and community at large, the kids can hopefully enjoy their new library space by the end of the school year.

Thanks to everyone who donated Christmas decorations to the school. The children and staff created a fabulous festive atmosphere throughout the school with all your donations. We even had a financial donation from educate.ie to purchase decorations. Back in November the school asked the PTP to purchase a set of 16 iPads for use by the children. These were purchased at a cost of €7,200. Thanks to Mr. Cheetham and Ms. Sheekey, they are now up and running and the children are beginning to use them in class. Please find below the agenda, including the Zoom login details, for the GCNS PTP AGM that is taking place on Tuesday, 2nd November 2021 at 7pm. Please also find below links to following documents for your review: 1. The revised Constitution of the PTP 2. A draft of the GDPR policy that the PTP is looking to put in place; 3. A draft GDPR consent form; and, 4. A revised Whatsapp Charter policy. Agenda for PTP AGM, Tuesday 2nd November 2021 at 7pm via Zoom

The PTP welcomes any and all feedback on these documents. As it can be difficult to have discussions over Zoom, if you have any feedback before the AGM, please email ptpgcns@gmail.com. We're looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible online next Tuesday. Kind Regards, Michelle Boehm GCNS PTP Chairperson We think you'll agree that our teachers and staff have done a fabulous job this year. They've kept the wonderful atmosphere of Greystones CNS alive during a challenging year. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the end of year gifts for all our teachers and support staff. We purchased gifts from many of local businesses in Greystones, some of which are owned by parents of children in our school.
Here's a selection of local businesses we bought gifts from:
The PTP were delighted to purchase some new Maths equipment for the school using money raised from our various fundraising efforts. Here's a few of the items the school has now added to their collection of Maths equipment:
On 4th March this year we celebrated World Book Day and while adults couldn't visit the classrooms this year, we had some amazing kids and family members send in recordings of themselves reading a variety of books for the classes.
As well as English, the kids heard Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Polish and Creole! It really is a fabulous day to celebrate and the kids equally loved dressing up as their favourite character from their favourite book. We received another grant this year to purchase foreign language books for the school library. €300 worth of books were purchased through the local children's bookshop Half Way Up The Stairs so that we could support a local business in Covid times.
We can't wait to see all these new books in our new school library. The class WhatsApp pages are administered under the guidance of the Parent Teacher Partnership (PTP). The idea for these groups is to provide a platform for parents of the current CNS classes to engage in friendly, school related chat. It can be somewhere to ask questions, to sell your old school jumpers, sports gear or to suggest new ideas for fundraising etc. A place where parents/guardians can connect and suggest social events, ideas and share thoughts in a positive way to help each other.
To foster the sense of school community, membership to this group is for current parents of this class only. You can set the notifications settings for this group to ‘mute’ so that you don’t get too many notifications. It goes without saying that it would not be appropriate to have discussions here naming any individual or child or on any subject that should be dealt with in private. This group is intended to be a friendly, calm, hang-out kind of place. Views expressed are those of those of individuals themselves and not of the school or PTP. Finally, under no circumstances should any grievance, concern or complaint relating to the school be discussed in this group. If you have a grievance please approach the class teacher directly via Seesaw, email or through the office. The WhatsApp group admin will delete any posts that are inappropriate and may remove anyone from the group who continues to post inappropriate messages. Dear Parents/Guardians,
At the end of what has been an extremely difficult and stressful first half term of 2021 we hope you have all survived and are looking forward to better times ahead. I think we can all agree that online learning is difficult and sometimes challenging for children, teachers and especially parents. We understand that everyone's household circumstances are completely different and would like to reiterate Mr Kinane's words, "it is vital that you only attempt the amount of work that you feel able and comfortable with in your own context. We ask, if possible, that you focus on the English and the Maths lessons if time is constrained in your home and even then, do of those what you can". We would also like to remind parents when using class WhatsApp groups that it is a school platform for communication so please be mindful of current COVID guidelines. The school has also requested that we don't share Zoom meeting links via class WhatsApp groups. If you are not receiving them via email please contact your child's teacher. We hope you all enjoy a very well deserved mid term break from online lessons. Let's hope we will see each other again very soon at the school gates. The PTP Committee |
