Dear Parents/Guardians,
It is World Book Day this Thursday, 4th March. While we can't organise a group of parents to visit the classrooms and read to all our amazing children this year, we've come up with some alternative ideas to keep the spirit of World Book Day alive. Thankfully getting lost in a good book is one of the simple pleasures that has not been impacted by lockdown. Junior Infants / Senior Infants / 1st / 2nd classes The teachers would love to see the children coming to school on Thursday dressed as their favourite character from a book (if they choose). 3rd and 4th classes For our older students, teachers would love to see them dressed as their favourite book characters either on their weekly Zoom calls or send in a picture of themselves dressed up. Some of our parents have made a video of themselves reading a book. The children who have returned to school this week will be enjoying these in class on Thursday. A huge thank you to all the parents who sent in a video - it was a big ask and as always, we were really impressed with the positive response! Finally, attached are a couple of websites with some resources for families to explore at home. We appreciate that the number of online resources can be overwhelming at the moment but the love of reading lasts a lifetime. So hopefully you can find something to encourage some DEAR time (Drop Everything And Read) at home. Thank you again for your support. Warmest regards, The PTP and Arts Committee

Unfortunately due to precautions over the spread of COVID-19 the Greystones St Patrick's Day Parade has been cancelled this year.
Thank you to all the team who have been putting in so much work for our entry this year. We're sure we'll get to use the costumes and displays for another event in the near future. We've been working really hard to get our costumes and banners ready for the St Patrick's Day Parade in Greystones on Tuesday 17th March. The team this year has been fantastic; full of creativity and fun. Thanks to everyone who has helped out so far.
Here's a sneak peak of what we've been working on. We are excited about our "Under the Sea" theme for our entry in the Greystones St Patrick's Day Parade this year. There will be a lot of blue, yellow, green and other vibrant colors to brighten up what's usually a cold and dull day in March. To make it as memorable as possible, we will need a lot of help.
So, how can you help? The answer is there are no limits. We need people who can help us with:
We often hear parents say “I'm not creative” but we beg to differ. Together we will bring our imaginations alive and create something really special. Making it a memorable third year We are proud that this is the third year we've taken part in the parade and we are honored to have won the last two years; we will will do our best again this year too. But we really believe that working as a community, where children and adults contribute something of their own is the true success. Interested in participating? Simply get in touch with our parade coordinator Erika by emailing Erika.nikiskina@gmail.com or calling 085 130043. A big thank you goes out from the Arts Committee to everyone who came out to sing Christmas Carol's at Tesco on 18th December. It was a fantastic group effort; we raised €204 for the school and Temple Street Hospital in one hour with not a huge amount of footfall.
We charmed shoppers and staff alike with our lively renditions and there was even a spot of impromptu freestyle dancing from the kids, whose enthusiasm spread to the adults. We definitely spread festive cheers in our community - a credit to our school! We're already planning our theme and costumes for our Greystones St Patrick's Day Parade entry which takes place on 17th March 2020. And we need all the help we can get to make it another memorable entry.
How can you help? Imagine the deep blue sea with sea creatures swimming in it, see the wonder and curiosity that the kids have. Our imagination is vast. By participating in this parade you will have an opportunity to create something from the heart, without limits. The stage is yours. If imagination is not your thing, then there is an opportunity to supervise, organize and lots more. So, how can you help?
Fun factors for the children:
We were delighted that our school won Overall Winner for the last two years. But what was really special was seeing parents and children with different talents and ideas collaborating to make the parade as memorable as possible for all. We'd love if you could find the time to share your talents with us, we know you have them! And here are some pictures of our creations for last year's parade. The Arts Committee supports the school by providing access to a wide variety of different artform activities for all pupils such as:
