PTP update on the DES decision

3/9/2020

Dear Parents/Guardians

The PTP Committee has been busy since our last communication to you last Thursday evening, 5th March. The following work has taken place:

  1. An email was sent to Rory O’Toole and Deirdre Keyes from the KWETB outlining our frustration and anger at the decision to allow Greystones Community College access to our building. We have requested an urgent meeting with them to discuss this decision. We are awaiting on a response and will let you know when that meeting is to take place. In the meantime we will continue to chase the KWETB for a date.

  2. We sent an email to all of our locally elected representatives outlining our concerns at this decision, asking them to contact the Department of Education and Skills (DES) on our behalf and to also attend the meeting with the KWETB and the Board.

  3. We have drafted an email for any parent/guardian who wishes to send it onto the DES and the Minister of Education, Joe McHugh, expressing our concerns about the new secondary school taking up residence in our primary school building. We would encourage as many parents as possible to forward this email onto the DES. If you are happy to do this then please:

  • Copy the text from this page and paste it into a new email message
  • Send the email to both the Minister for Education and the DES
  • Cc all 5 of our locally elected representatives on your email submission to the DES
  • Each parent/guardian send one email each so we can maximise the impact given we are still a small school community
  • Put into the subject title of your email - Greystones Community National School – Reversal of decision to accommodate the new secondary school in the primary school building

The email is only a guideline, if you wish to change it that is up to you. Please find below all the email addresses that you will need. Also feel free to post this on all social media platforms that the DES can be found on, for example, Twitter @education_Ire
  • Joe McHugh – Minister for Education: Joe.mchugh@oireachtas.ie
  • Department of Education and Skills: info@education.gov.ie
  • Stephen Donnelly – TD: Stephen.donnelly@oireachtas.ie
  • John Brady – TD: John.brady@oireachtas.ie
  • Jennifer Whitmore – TD: Jennifer.whitmore@oireachtas.ie
  • Steven Matthews - TD: Steven.matthews@oireachtas.ie
  • Simon Harris – TD: Simon.harris@oireachtas.ie

For the meeting with the KWETB, we will want all questions submitted in writing to the PTP Committee. The rationale behind this is that we want every parent’s concerns to be addressed but given the large number of people expected on the night we would be fearful that some parents may not get an opportunity to ask their question. We feel that submitting the questions will also give the meeting a better structure. Once we have a date for the meeting we will send you out details on how to submit your questions.

We will be in touch later on in the week to provide you with another update. In the meantime, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact a member of the PTP committee.
Kind Regards

Michelle Boehm
PTP Chairperson
On behalf of the PTP Committee
