Dear Parents/Guardians,
It is World Book Day this Thursday, 4th March. While we can't organise a group of parents to visit the classrooms and read to all our amazing children this year, we've come up with some alternative ideas to keep the spirit of World Book Day alive. Thankfully getting lost in a good book is one of the simple pleasures that has not been impacted by lockdown. Junior Infants / Senior Infants / 1st / 2nd classes The teachers would love to see the children coming to school on Thursday dressed as their favourite character from a book (if they choose). 3rd and 4th classes For our older students, teachers would love to see them dressed as their favourite book characters either on their weekly Zoom calls or send in a picture of themselves dressed up. Some of our parents have made a video of themselves reading a book. The children who have returned to school this week will be enjoying these in class on Thursday. A huge thank you to all the parents who sent in a video - it was a big ask and as always, we were really impressed with the positive response! Finally, attached are a couple of websites with some resources for families to explore at home. We appreciate that the number of online resources can be overwhelming at the moment but the love of reading lasts a lifetime. So hopefully you can find something to encourage some DEAR time (Drop Everything And Read) at home. Thank you again for your support. Warmest regards, The PTP and Arts Committee
