Carol Singing: Bringing Festive Cheer To Our Community

12/20/2019

A big thank you goes out from the Arts Committee to everyone who came out to sing Christmas Carol's at Tesco on 18th December. It was a fantastic group effort; we raised €204 for the school and Temple Street Hospital in one hour with not a huge amount of footfall.

We charmed shoppers and staff alike with our lively renditions and there was even a spot of impromptu freestyle dancing from the kids, whose enthusiasm spread to the adults. We definitely spread festive cheers in our community - a credit to our school!

Preparing for the St Patrick's Day Parade

12/17/2019

We're already planning our theme and costumes for our Greystones St Patrick's Day Parade entry which takes place on 17th March 2020.  And we need all the help we can get to make it another memorable entry.

How can you help?
Imagine the deep blue sea with sea creatures swimming in it, see the wonder and curiosity that the kids have. Our imagination is vast. By participating in this parade you will have an opportunity to create something from the heart, without limits. The stage is yours. If imagination is not your thing, then there is an opportunity to supervise, organize and lots more.  So, how can you help?
  • Involve yourself or your entire family in the theme creation (no minimum amount of time is required)
  • Hone the skills that can be used in your day job or in life. Anything from organizational skills to time management

Fun factors for the children:
  • Children and parents spending quality time together making creative pieces for the parade
  • Learning from parents and working on their own through fun and tactile experiences
  • Develop creative and critical thinking skills
  • Celebration of Irish traditions to create long lasting memories

We were delighted that our school won Overall Winner for the last two years. But what was really special was seeing parents and children with different talents and ideas collaborating to make the parade as memorable as possible for all.

We'd love if you could find the time to share your talents with us, we know you have them! And here are some pictures of our creations for last year's parade.

What we do

The Arts Committee supports the school by providing access to a wide variety of different artform activities for all pupils such as:

  • World Book Day and Poetry Day: professional authors and parents come in to read to all classes
  • Fighting Words: each year 2nd Class collaboratively writes a story at the Fighting Words base in Glencree, Co Wicklow
  • St. Patrick’s Parade: We've been awarded Overall Winner two years in a row due to parents, teachers and pupils working together as a team to produce outstanding costumes and floats
  • Creative Schools Week: a full week of arts activities culminating in a fun end-of-week display of all the work created that all families are invited to view
  • Christmas Carolling is an annual opportunity for us to raise our voices and spread a little Christmas cheer in our community while also raising funds for our new school building

Keep an eye on this page for information on upcoming activities and photos of the work we do.
